One of the saddest things I've heard as a Celebrant was a bride who said to me "my friends don't think I spent enough money."
Really!!! Honey, you need new friends.
No-ones wedding day should ever be measured by the amount of money they spend. I've conducted so many ceremonies from tiny elopements to grand affairs and, in my opinion, the one ingredient you need for a beautiful, successful wedding, is love.
Couples preparing for their wedding day fall into the obvious arrangements of invitations, venues, cars and flowers, dresses, suits, hair styles and shoes! It's like discovering a new language, but half the work has already been done for you.
If your dream has been to arrive at your wedding in a horse drawn carriage in a big white dress with a huge bouquet..and you can afford all this, then do it! But if its not YOUR dream and you find yourself plummeting down the overwhelming roller coaster of "things you must have"..then STOP!
How often have you heard the words simple and elegant in the same sentence? ALL THE TIME! Plan your day for you. Be true to yourself and to the things you love. You have all the choices in the world available to you. Someone once said to me "you can have all the money in the world..and no style".
Dare to think outside the square and don't ever be pressured into spending more than you can afford. True friends and family will genuinely and wholeheartedly celebrate your marriage with love and sincerity, no matter how big or small your celebration x
